WW: It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas

WW: It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas

More Wordless Wednesday

This is the month of Christmas. If you have read a post I did on Christmas last year, you would know that I grew up listening to the Christmas songs of Alvin and the Chipmunks. I bought the cassette tape version of A Chipmunk Christmas and I listened to the storyline every night while I dozed off to my dreamland.

The story told of Alvin whom unselfishly gave his golden harmonica to a very ill boy, Tommy, in the hope that he would get better. Isn’t this the true spirit of Christmas? A time of giving to our family and friends and especially to strangers we have never met. And yes, I do agree that the spirit of giving should be all year long and not only during Christmas.

Last year what my friend and I had done are to pool some money to buy presents for the poor children in her community. We did not have a lot of money but she and her cousins managed to buy a lot of presents. They had a great time shopping and wrapping the presents. She told me that the children were really happy to receive all those presents. And that made me very happy too. However, sad to say I would not be able to do much of that this year. How about you, what would you be doing this Christmas?

If you have no idea, maybe you would like to be involved with this great ecookbook idea from Patricia Wisdom; her creative way of helping to spread word on UNICEF. Do hop over to take a look.

That must have been such a rewarding experience for you last Christmas. What a great idea and very kind of you. This Christmas will be a quiet one. I will be sharing Christmas dinner with my brother; no presents this year. Just good food and good company. That’s enough for me.

Talking about giving money for those poor homeless kids, I kinda have a mixed feeling about it. My company had this last year. And few of the kid’s request really wow-ed me. They asked for PSP, Limited Edition T-Shirt and an expensive branded watch! I prefer to get them to do something useful and then reward them later, so that the kids have a sense of accomplishment.

My son loves listening to that too.

Every Christmas eve, hubs and the kids would share some of our food to some families in the streets. This year, we also don’t have much but we’ll still share whatever we are having.

It is the season of giving and I often think if we do away with this season and try giving what we can when we can it wouldn’t be nearly as stressful for everyone. Crime rate really goes through the roof during this holiday or maybe it’s just reported more. At any rate I love Alvin and the chipmunks.

@ Liferamblings, yes Chipmunks rule! 🙂

@ Davina, very rewarding indeed; it made me very happy to think of those happy children. Quality time with family and loved ones is the most important and more than enough for me too. There is really no need for presents. 🙂

@ VanillaSeven, I never like the idea of just giving money to those poor homeless children. I come from the school of thought that believe in teaching them how to fish. Where were these children from? Since you are from Singapore also, I assume these homeless children are from Singapore too. If they are, I am not surprise by their requests. My friend is from the Philippines and those children who we bought them presents are in the province. They were already very happy that we bought them some new stationeries and toys. I believe the children may be disappointed not getting the PSP or limited edition T-shirt etc, but they would still be very happy when they received the presents from your company. I like your idea of getting them to do something useful and then to reward them later. 🙂

@ Modern Mom, that is a great thing to do too. It helps to inculcate the giving spirit in your children. Children See, Children do. 🙂

@ Jude, I agree with you totally. We should not just focus on giving during this time only. We should do our best to give what we can whenever we can. Thank you for reminding me of that. 🙂

@ Pam, me too! I just love the cartoon way of Dave screaming “Alvin!” And Alvin always replying reluctantly. 🙂

I love Alvin and the Chipmunks! This is one of my favorite Christmas songs. It makes me smile whenever I hear it. 🙂

It’s going to be a quiet Christmas here this year, but that’s okay. If I can I’ll find a way to give to the toy drive, but that’s about it.

Thanks for stopping by my blog,
    Lena

    Hey BK!

You know I love those Chipmunks. I finally broke down and bought the box set for us to watch during the holiday season.

This year we are inviting another needy family over to spend Christmas day. My presents will be very limited this year, but at least we can all eat a good meal.

The weather outside is still very warm for us. We are 60 degrees. For some reason the season doesn’t seem real without cold weather.

Thank you so much for the special song!!They are so adorable.

HEhee the Chipmunks… We always try to do something for those in this area… Not sure this Christmas we will be able to do much but for Thanksgiving we donated some turkeys to a few families that didn’t have the means to have a turkey dinner… But after some family death back home and the plane tickets (outrageous prices) not sure if Christmas holidays will be as giving… However we have donated warm clothes and coats since we are in the brrrrr 40 and get to the 20s this week

@ Julia, I like the idea of making Christmas gifts. I believe your boys have gotten the idea that the ability to give and to share yield greater pleasure than to receive. 🙂

@ Anne, I thought I am the only one who was crazy about Alvin and the Chipmunks’ Christmas songs. It turned out that a lot of people are their fans too. 🙂

@ Tammy, that’s a wonderful thing that you are doing every year. And I know that your giving spirit is not only at Christmas but all year round. I agree with you; the season doesn’t seem real without cold weather. This is one of the reasons why I like Christmas. 🙂

@ Brooke, I guess it is not how much we can give but the spirit of giving from the heart that is the most important. Your clothes and coats will do wonderful in helping people keep warmth.

@ Vixen, time is what they badly need; they need to have hope that people out there still care about them.

@ Jannie, that’s a wonderful thing. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

@ Canine, I think I love all things Christmas when I was a kids. The reason why I was playing the Chipmunks all night long was because of the cassette tape I bought. 🙂

  9. Patricia

    BK,
Thank you for coming by my blog and I love the Chipmunks too…I put it on my partner’s Ipod for the Christmas shuffle!

I think the ecookbook, which is free will be a great gift – and as you can see I am not able to do what I usually do this Christmas so I tried to be creative.

Thank you to Jannie for the shout out…
And I loved discovering your blog…now that is a gift in itself.

I used to love Alvin and the Chipmunks. I’m a member of a local club, and each year we particpate in the Salvation Army Chrismtas Angel program. In the program, you receive a paper angel with the name of a child and a list of clothes sizes and a toy they would like to have. As a club we are doing 50 Angels this year!

We also sponsor a couple of local families with Christmas dinner and gifts. One family we’ve been sponsoring for several years is a single mom with two kids. One of the kids is Autistic. This mom does her best to get by and take care of the needs of her family. Her and the kids are so very thankful when we arrive bearing gifts. It’s such a great experience.

It would be so nice if you had one of those little chat boxes so I could leave you a little message so you would know I had been here because I feel silly commenting on the same post with nothing relevant to add. I tried it once, the chat box and it received so much spam I had to remove it. I really enjoy your blog and enjoy stopping by even if I don’t always leave a comment.Take care BK I always appreciate your visits.

@ Fishing Guy, thank you for dropping by. 🙂

@ Eric, those are wonderful things that you are doing every year. I believe those acts of selfless giving will bring much joy for the children and the sponsored families. I am sure it is a very enriching experience for you and all the people doing it. Thank you for sharing your experience.

@ Jude, I have tried the chatbox once and was receiving spams too. So I removed it. I am thankful for your continue visits and comments also. Take care always too.

      @ Angela, thank you.

@ Pamela, I agree with you; it is a classic! 🙂

@ Sunnymama, dancing is good and health way to expend extra energy. 🙂

@ Leeuna, thank you. And may you be blessed always too.

Oh, I used to LOVE the chipmunk Christmas when I was a kid, that is until I discovered the movie ‘A Christmas Story!’

I think it’s wonderful you were able to help out poor children last year. I always donate food/clothes and toys to my sons school and they distribute them to needy families. It feels good to know some how I helped someone in need.

    🙂

I love hearing about what others do for Christmas or giving in general. It’s very inspirational and let’s me know that there are still regular people in the world that really care.
