Symphony of Love have been set up for almost 2 years now. It has given me much pleasure to share the positive power and wisdom of love quotations with Symphony of Love’s subscribers almost everyday. I will get an email reply to ‘unsubscribe’ from the mailing list once in a while. Sometimes, I get very good email from subscribers to share with the rest. There were a few times I felt very touch when some subscribers forwarded the love quotations to their loved ones; but they had clicked ‘reply’ rather than ‘forward’ and sent the email back to me with their love messages. Thank you for helping to spread love around.
This morning when I checked my email, I received a reply from a new subscriber asking me some very interesting questions. I replied asking for permission to think about the questions before answering back. The questions were going through my mind for the whole day while I was carrying out my daily routine and yet I found no answers. Two of the questions asked were:
1. Could you explain to me more about the love which God has given to us?
2. What are the sources of love?
With regards to the first question, the challenge lies in trying to define something abstract like love. Probably Duke Ellington said it best when he said, “Love is indescribable and unconditional. I could tell you a thousand things that it is not, but not one that it is.” And Kristen Kappel said, “Love is something you canΓ’β¬β’t describe like the look of a rose, the smell of the rain, or the feeling of forever.” Indeed! I have compiled love quotations from many people (from both famous people and from unknown sources) and no two persons had the exact thought about love; they might have similar thought but not exactly the same.
However, I noticed one thing that comes closest to explain about the love which God has given us, is in the giving – unconditional love. Leo Buscaglia said, “Only when we give joyfully, without hesitation or thought of gain, can we truly know what love means.” Katharine Hepburn said it best when she said, “Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get — only with what you are expecting to give — which is everything.”
One of the best example of unconditional love would have to be from that of parents. I believe that most of us had experience the unconditional love that our parents had shown us at one time or another. I remembered when I was young, there were two incidents where I had really high fever. My mother was so worried that she practically stayed besides my bed, soaked a piece of towel in cold water and put it over my forehead. There were many times when she would check on us in the night, especially when the weather turned cold, to make sure we were kept warm with our blankets. I knew because I was awake.
Recently I shared a story about a friend of mine who has a special child (Mom, I Graduated Today!) and that is another case of unconditional love. “Unconditional love – it is in the giving that the other person realizes.” The person who is receiving might not even know sometimes, but it never stops you from giving – that is unconditional love, the love which God has given to us.
With regards to the second question, love exists in different forms and degrees. It can be the love one experience in the family from one’s parents, siblings and relatives. It can be love from one’s friends. Even from strangers. Usually the love that one experience in the family is more intense comparing to love from friends which are in term more intense comparing to love from strangers. However, this is not true in all cases. As what Mother Teresa said, “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” The love that she had shown is truly extraordinary.
At this point, you may agree with some points and disagree with others. Much as I would like to represent the thought of all people, I understand that different people has different view of love. Just as Albert Einstein said, “When you sit with a nice girl for two hours, you think it’s only a minute. But when you sit on a hot stove for a minute, you think its two hours. That’s relativity.” One thing I do believe is that love does make us wiser. One of the love quotations which I like is by Benjamin Franklin, which he said, “Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, and half shut afterwards.”

What an uplifting post!
Love.. hm.. very hard to describe and it’s so wonderful.
A nice warm hug on a cold winter’s day. A beautiful smile from a stranger in a foreign land. A strong helping hand when one has fallen. A midnight call from distant land to say “Hello. How are you?”.
These are all instances of love for me. Very subtle but it’s always there when you need it.
I guess 4 years on my own and made me stronger. And appreciate everything around me better.
For you my dear old mate, take care and have a great weekend. π
Thank you Sher! Yes, love is all around when we opened our heart.
Have a great weekend too! π
I would define love as, a couple who are still holding hands and embrace each other even whey had turned grey.
That is lovely and it should be that way. That is the way which I want it to happen too. This is something which takes both effort and time to make it happens. Some people would say that marriage is the end of courtship. There is a quotation that goes something like this, “marriage is the starts of courtship,” and I definitely agree with this.
I like the part relating to your mother. Funny, my mother does that too when we were young. She would check on us from time to time to be sure we’re okay. Got a high fever too when I was young and she never left my side as she thought I would leave them any moment. She would always tell her friends that I’m the reason for her being prayerful now. I guess it’s innate on Mothers to love their children unconditionally. I would love to do that too when I become a Mom.
I like the last part too.
Nice post!
Hi Emelyn, it seems we have the same mother? π
I saw the same thing in my sister too when she was caring for one of her twin sons who were having fever. I believe all parents love their children unconditionally. In one of my previous posts ‘The Strongest Dad in the World, the father in the story shown a great example of unconditional love to his son that is most touching.
Ha ha! Yeah, so that means we’re siblings. (LOL)
Haha, you are right! π
hi!!!
sometimes LOVE HURTS..
its like heaven but its like hell when its hurts.this words im gonna writes is based what i am experxinece.Love is-if you hold hands and sit beside each other in the cafeteria. That means you’re in love. Otherwise, you can sit across from each other and be okay.Love is when someone hurts you. And you get so mad but you don’t yell at him because you know it would hurt his feelings,Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more,If you want somebody to love you, then just be yourself. Some people try to act like somebody else, somebody the boy likes better. I think the boy isn’t being very good if he does this to you and you should just find a nicer boy.
YOU BREAK LOVE BUT IT WONT DIE,
love is when make you smile even your tired.Love is hugging. Love is kissing. Love is saying no.is a call in the middle of the night to say!!how are you
im woman with man..evertime i fall inlove i only prefer with man and nver look to other.
but sometime love isn*t bad for me…love just broke my heart.
Hi Angelbreaks, thanks for sharing your insight and experience in love. I learned from others when they shared their experience and story. Love really can be as simple as a call from someone to say, “How are you?” or even, “I miss you.”
And I agree with you that if the person just want to change you to someone he/she likes better, then one should just find someone else.
