Wordless Wednesday: Elegant Orchid

orchid

Orchid is one of my favorite flowers. Orchid happens to be the national flower of Singapore also. The orchid variety, Vanda Miss Joaquim was chosen as the national flower on April 15, 1981. Vanda Miss Joaquim was chosen as Singapore’s national flower from among 40 other contenders, including some 30 orchids. It was selected particularly because of its hardy and resilient qualities and its ability to bloom throughout the year. These are characteristics which reflect Singapore’s quest for progress and excellence in all aspects of life.

The picture above is not the variety Vanda Miss Joaquim.

    @ Renée, thank you.

@Lynne, ‘delicate’ that is one word I would like to use to describe the orchid. I was looking for another word to describe it but couldn’t think of another word besides elegant. What I would like to say about orchid is they look delicate and yet elegant. πŸ™‚

Oh BK, this is beautiful. Can you believe that I have never tried to grow these. In my area they can only grow indoors. At this time of the year they are for sale everywhere.

I cannot imagine seeing them everywhere.

Hey…I finally have enough saved to do a Entrecard with you! Watch out…what a team we will make.

@ Tammy, It is interesting to know that you have orchids there too. I have always thought that orchids are only found in tropical countries; obviously I didn’t do homework on this. When you see something everywhere, maybe you’ll grow tired of it. πŸ™‚

@ Misty, glad to hear that orchids are your favorite flower. I heard from Tammy, from one of the comments above, that orchids can be found also in US? πŸ™‚

    @ Colleen, thank you. πŸ™‚

@ Shawie, your mother and mine could have been the best of friend; my mother loves flower too. She would always get some flowers to decorate the house on special occasions.

Hope you have a wonderful week too. πŸ™‚

@ MBL, I agree with you that orchid is beautiful and I think it also looks very elegant.

@ iwalk, wow, your father must be a great fan of orchid and he must be very good in planting them. πŸ™‚

@ Shinade, pardon me, I just saw your comment; it got into the spam folder. I have never tried growing them too. I have saw one at my friend’s house which is growing very well and lovely too.

    Hi BK,

It’s good to know that is the national flower of Singapore. My grandmother used to take care of the species. I was assigned to take care of her orchids. Huh! that is a lovely flower.

    Have a brilliant day!!!

    @ Joyoz, thank you.

@ Sam, wow, you must have quite a lot of knowledge about orchids too.

@ Liane, I didn’t know that orchid is also a favorite in the Philippines but its no wonder that it is a favorite in Philippines; it’s beautiful and elegant.

I see them on the streets of Seoul, Korea!
Of course, not on the roads or the highways, but a public park near my house has a row of them!
It looks exactly the same, and I’m pretty sure it’s the same thing :).
    They’re simple, yet beautiful.

I live in the UK and am an orchid enthusiast! They are beautiful and although have a reputation for being difficult to grow, they are fairly easy to manage. Glad to see so many people appreciate them too!
